Spent today wrapping up the last of the things needed to be done for the responsive project, ready for tomorrow’s hand-in. Simple things, such as compiling the screenshots document for browser testing, and putting together the docs for HTML5 and CSS3 validation. The main issue with the validation is that the validator doesn’t like the metatag I use for controlling the rendering engine for IE, but thankfully that is the only error it spits out on all of the pages, so I can live with that.

And telling Internet Explorer what to do makes up the majority of my daily routine. :3

As for the rest of the day, aside from finding out that the eLearning department is being slightly restructured – and I’m being moved to the “Web Development & User Interface Team” headed up by our very own Lauren – I’ve spent the rest of the day playing around with an alternate layout for the homepage, based on my wireframes currently. This was more of an experiment to adapt the current code into a completely different design, and needs a lot of tweaking and fixing, since absolute positioning was being an ass, but it works quite well for a short coding stint.

Ideally I want to position the masthead container proportionally to the edges of the wrapper it sits in, and I’d usually use stretching and padding for this, but for some reason it wasn’t behaving as expected, so I had to get it to work via a number of hacks. I am happy that the carousel code is easily adapted to something of this nature, however, which is good for reusability.

Only thing to do tonight is to wrap up my paperwork, and off we go.
